【Event Sharing】Angus Invited as Visiting Lecturer for Lingnan University's GHIT Master's Program: Discussing the Practice and Future of Gerontechnology

I. Lingnan University Academic Exchange: Passing on Gerontechnology and Design

In April 2026, Angus Hung, representing Tin Tin Doi Bou Wheelchair Specialist Store, was invited to be a guest lecturer for Lingnan University's GHIT (Global Humanitarian Innovation and Technology) Master's program. In this special session on "Gerontechnology and Design," Angus, leveraging his rich frontline experience in the rehabilitation industry, engaged in in-depth discussions with master's students on the practical application of wheelchair technology in Hong Kong's aging society.

This academic exchange was not only a transfer of experience but also indirectly confirmed the high recognition from both the industry and academia for Tin Tin Doi Bou and Angus's years of dedication in the field of gerontechnology.

II. Rooted in Language Sciences: Nurturing a "Healer's Heart" Clinical Perspective

This professional foundation can be traced back to Angus Hung's time studying Language Sciences at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Although the discipline focuses on speech therapy, its essence falls within the scope of allied health and rehabilitation sciences, similar to physiotherapy and occupational therapy. This academic background provided Angus with a "clinical perspective" different from traditional sales — he not only observes the mechanical performance of wheelchairs but also pays attention to the user's physiological feedback and psychological needs during operation.

This "healer's heart" clinical vision also evolved into Tin Tin Doi Bou's unique business philosophy. There have been instances in the store where Angus declined a customer's purchase intention. When his assessment revealed that the existing models in the store were not the most suitable for the user's clinical needs, he would advise the customer to look for more appropriate models from other competitors, or even personally guide them to relevant channels.

"At Tin Tin Doi Bou, we strive for world-class excellence within the boundaries of our own expertise. We understand our positioning, so when faced with customers outside our service scope, we choose to recommend competitors. I dislike the traditional 'hardsell' model because true competitiveness stems from 'product power.' Only when the product itself is outstanding can it accurately solve the user's clinical pain points."

Angus's commitment to professional judgment has enabled Tin Tin Doi Bou to grow into a specialized enterprise that combines clinical perspectives with technological R&D, establishing a clear position in the field of gerontechnology in just a few years. This unwavering adherence to user needs and professional perspectives, rather than blindly following trends, has also become the core driving force behind his subsequent efforts to promote numerous industry innovations.

III. From R&D to Service: Introducing YPush and Leading Industry Standards

Mr. Angus Hung's passion for gerontechnology officially transformed into practice during his fourth year of university in 2018. He joined the Science Park startup company "Single Person Transport Design (SPTD)" and transitioned to full-time employment after graduation. He was deeply involved in the then highly innovative "MoBiLET Bubble Wheelchair Anti-Collision System" project and the "Shared Wheel" pilot program at Hong Kong Science Park. It was this opportunity that allowed Angus to deeply appreciate the immense potential of combining technology with rehabilitation, thereby establishing his ambition and passion for entering the gerontechnology industry.

In 2019, he decided to step out of the pure technical R&D framework and dive deep into the industry as an agent and service provider. He realized that "only by being closest to the users can you truly understand what the market needs." In 2020, he led Tin Tin Doi Bou to participate in the 4th Gerontech and Innovation Expo cum Summit, demonstrating that even with a change in role, he remained focused on the field of gerontechnology.
In 2021, he led his team to bring a wheelchair revolution to Hong Kong's rehabilitation sector, making Tin Tin Doi Bou the first Asian agent to introduce the UK YPush integrated power-assist wheelchair. The emergence of this wheelchair was a revolution in the rehabilitation field at the time – it was the first mass-produced integrated design specifically for "power-assist," rather than simply moving the controller to the rear or adding auxiliary wheels. The introduction of YPush officially launched the "power-assist wheelchair" subcategory in Hong Kong, shifting the focus to fundamentally reducing the physical burden and injuries of caregivers.

This introduction was not just a product success, but also subtly influenced industry standards. In the " Gerontech Innovation Fund Reference List," some technical characteristics described for power-assist wheelchairs closely align with the unique functional paradigm pioneered by YPush. At that time, Angus was also invited to introduce this innovative product to various government officials (including then-Secretary for Labour and Welfare Dr. Law Chi-kwong), further solidifying his position as a "leading industry benchmark" (Secretary's Blog).

To build "product power" on a more solid technical foundation, Angus proactively enrolled in a wheelchair and assistive device maintenance course in the same year. This comprehensive grasp, from front-end sales to back-end structural maintenance, gave him a deeper understanding of wheelchair durability, safety, and comfort, laying the groundwork for the birth of his own brand.

IV. Deepening Professional Education and Founding the LiteWheel Brand

In 2022, with the official establishment of the Jockey Club "a home" Gerontechnology Education and Rental Service, Angus and his Tin Tin Doi Bou team reached a new milestone. As the first wheelchair supplier for this service, he not only provided high-quality equipment but was also invited to explain wheelchair maintenance knowledge to their service team.

In 2023, driven by the ultimate pursuit of "product power," Angus officially founded the LiteWheel electric wheelchair brand. At that time, brushless motors had just entered the wheelchair market, with varying quality. Many suppliers adopted the lower-tech "square wave control" to reduce costs, and even abandoned the critical "electromagnetic brake" safety system to cut prices. However, Angus insisted on collaborating with technologically advanced suppliers, opting for the higher-cost "sine wave control technology" for a smoother driving experience, and always retaining the electromagnetic brake as a safety baseline. Thanks to this professional reputation, LiteWheel was not only adopted by organizations like St. James' Settlement and Christian Family Service Centre but also received hospital referrals and successfully entered large chain stores like Fortress. In the same year, he also launched a YouTube channel, bringing professional rehabilitation education to the public through digital media.

In 2024, Mr. Angus Hung, through extensive observation of electric wheelchair users' driving behavior, developed a framework for a "Electric Wheelchair Driving Report." The original intention of this framework was not to replace professional diagnosis, but to provide occupational therapists and relevant professionals with a more objective reference dimension by quantifying subtle indicators such as "Micro-control Precision" and "Driving Behavior Profiling," thereby assisting in assessing users' driving abilities and formulating precise training programs.

V. Promoting Resource Flow: From Platform Building to Future Product Vision

In 2025, Angus turned his attention to the market liquidity of gerontechnology resources. To break down the barrier of expensive rehabilitation equipment, he not only led Tin Tin Doi Bou to partner with logistics platform Lalamove for the " LALA Charity for the Elderly Wheelchair Donation Program" for second-hand wheelchair donations, but also founded "RehabEasy", a platform for buying and selling second-hand rehabilitation equipment, complemented by an active Facebook discussion group. This created a transparent and professional circular ecosystem for second-hand equipment. Through these platforms, Angus uses his professional assessment and maintenance capabilities to ensure that circulating equipment meets safety standards, allowing more grassroots families to access high-quality rehabilitation support at an affordable cost.

For the future, Angus consistently maintains the keen insight of a "product developer." He believes that existing rehabilitation equipment still has immense room for improvement in technological iteration and industrial design. His vision is to continue leading Tin Tin Doi Bou to break the traditional equipment's "clumsy and slow-to-update" status quo, developing products that are more powerful and closely align with users' true needs.

VI. Conclusion: Restoring Dignity in Mobility for Every User

From a clinical perspective rooted in language sciences to becoming a gerontechnology innovator leading industry standards, Angus Hung has spent eight years establishing his own professional compass in the Hong Kong rehabilitation sector. He clearly understands his company's boundaries but never limits his imagination for technological innovation. At Tin Tin Doi Bou, product power is always the primary language, and restoring dignity in mobility for every user is the eternal finish line in this long-distance tech race.
